http://www.wcu.edu/bardoartscenter/index.html The Fine and Performing Arts Center (FPAC) at Western Carolina University and the Jackson County Arts Council make possible Family Art at the Market (FAM). During the market’s outdoor season (April through October) and under the shade of the pavilion from 10-noon kids are welcome to join in on creating artwork. Sometimes the artwork is a collaboration and sometimes you can take it home. Sometime the artwork is displayed at FPAC and kids can see their collaborations on the walls of the Art Center. Creators of FAM often relate their project to what is currently showing at FPAC.
http://www.citylightsnc.com/ City Lights Bookstore comes down to the market every Saturday at 11:30 for story time at the market. Taken from their website “Our goal is to share the literature of the Southern Appalachian region with the world, and the world of books with our community.”
http://www.communitytable.org/ The market vendors donate unsold veggies to the Community Table most weeks. The Community Table has a “vision that no one in Jackson County goes to bed hungry. Market customers are welcome to purchase veggies for donation as well. The donation cooler is located at the Market Information Booth. At the height of the season this year vendors were donating 100 pounds a week! The Jackson County Farmers Market uses the Community Table for its indoor location from November through March. The CT is on Central Street next to the Sylva Pool and Poteet Park. The Winter Market is also Saturdays from 9-noon.
